Chelsea rule America’s heartland, ahead of Spurs and Manchester United

As measured by purchases of shirts (“jerseys”) made over the last six months on one of the USA’s biggest online retailers of “soccer”, Chelsea are the second most popular Premier League team in America, with most states in America’s Heartland choosing Blue (unlike in the polls!).

That’s right, Chelsea rule the Midwest. Spurs are also a strong presence, but with Chelsea carrying the vote in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Arkansas, Oklahoma, we have a clear majority. Chelsea add six more states from the East Coast, too.

As per the map from, Chelsea also carry both North and South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Maryland (and Delaware!), and New Hampshire, too, plus Hawaii for good measure. (And Washington, DC, too, but they don’t count.) That’s 14 of the 50 states going with Chelsea, which is second-most behind Manchester United.

Here’s how it all breaks down:

MANCHESTER UNITED (16): Alabama, Alaska, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Virginia, Wyoming

CHELSEA (14): Arkansas, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina

LIVERPOOL (11): Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Kansas, Maine, Nevada, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Texas, Vermont, Washington

SPURS (5): Louisiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Tennessee, Wisconsin

ARSENAL (3): North Dakota, Utah, West Virginia
