A mechanic village in Awada, Obosi, in the Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State has been razed by fire.
No fewer than 19 vehicles were reportedly destroyed in the inferno that occurred on Friday.
Our correspondent gathered that the disaster which occurred around 2am, on Amanator street, left most of the vehicles burnt beyond repair.
No life was lost in the incident which was said might be caused by electric surge.
A witness said firefighters were not seen on the occasion, causing residents to put off the fire on their own.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident to our correspondent.
He said, “Police patrol team attached to Awada division rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area to prevent hoodlums from taking advantage of the situation to loot.
“About 19 vehicles parked at the workshop were affected. While some were completely burnt, others were burnt partially.
“The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company has been contacted to effect necessary repairs on the affected power line.
Mohammed said the command would investigate the case to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident.
